Make sure your passport and your driver’s licenses (both national and international) are valid. Always keep the vehicle documents and the international insurance (SOAPEX) inside the camper, and double-check that they are returned to you every time you present them at police or border checkpoints.
Do not carry fresh food (fruits, vegetables, meat, cheese, etc.) when crossing borders, as it is prohibited by law. Check the operating hours and weather conditions of the border crossings, since many are not open 24 hours a day. Before returning the camper, make sure the border crossings on your route are open.
Always choose safe places or authorized campgrounds. Avoid leaving valuables visible inside the vehicle. During winter, some campgrounds remain closed, but you can park in open areas where it is allowed.
Try to arrive before sunset so you can pick a quiet and comfortable spot.
Plan your routes ahead of time. Some areas in the north and in Patagonia don’t have nearby gas stations or supermarkets. Make sure to carry enough fuel, water, and food before heading out, and try to choose larger stations that offer restrooms, showers, and gray/black water disposal.
